The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The new price of a 12-kg cylinder is Tk 1,837, up Tk 252 from the previous rate of Tk 1,585.
BERC announced the new price on Sunday, October 4. The latest increase comes after several price cuts and an increase earlier this year.
The price had reached Tk 1,940 in April 2026 after two increases. BERC then reduced the rate by Tk 55 in June and Tk 357 in July. It later increased the price by Tk 70 in August, taking it to Tk 1,598.
In September, the commission reduced the price by another Tk 13. As a result, the 12-kg cylinder was available at an official rate of Tk 1,585 before the latest decision.
LPG Price Has Changed Frequently
LPG prices have changed often in recent years. BERC has adjusted the official rate each month based on international market prices.
The price trend shows a major rise over the past five years. In April 2021, BERC set the maximum retail price of a 12-kg privately marketed LPG cylinder at Tk 975.
From April 2021 to April 2026, BERC changed the price 32 times. The changes included both increases and reductions during the period.
By April 2026, the official price had reached Tk 1,940. This was Tk 965 higher than the April 2021 rate of Tk 975. The increase was nearly 99 percent over five years.
LPG Price Trend Since 2021
In 2021, the price fell from Tk 975 to Tk 906 in May. It then fell again to Tk 842 in June. The price increased for five straight months from July to November, reaching Tk 1,313 in November.
The price later fell by Tk 85 in December to Tk 1,228. In 2022, the price increased seven times and fell five times. It ended the year at Tk 1,297.
In 2023, BERC increased the price seven times and reduced it five times. The price started the year at Tk 1,232 and reached Tk 1,404 in December. The lowest rate that year was Tk 999 in June.
The price also changed several times in 2024. It started at Tk 1,433 and rose to Tk 1,474 in February. It reached Tk 1,482 in March and stood at Tk 1,455 in November and December.
Price increases were less frequent in 2025. The year saw two increases, while reductions were recorded several times. The price fell to Tk 1,215 in November, while the highest rate was Tk 1,478 in February.
Major Changes in 2026
The first four months of 2026 brought sharp changes. The price rose from Tk 1,253 in January to Tk 1,356 in February. A VAT reduction then lowered it by Tk 15 to Tk 1,341.
The rate remained unchanged in March. In April, BERC raised the price twice by Tk 387 and Tk 212. The two increases pushed the 12-kg cylinder price to Tk 1,940.
The latest decision means consumers now face a Tk 252 increase compared with September. The new official price is Tk 1,837 for a 12-kg LPG cylinder.
BERC's latest adjustment takes effect at the beginning of October. Consumers and LPG sellers will therefore need to follow the new official rate.
